Telecommunication Operators Trapped in Price War
Like what i’ve written before, which you can read here about price war in telecommunication industry in Indonesia. A few days ago Indosat launched their new product’s rate (IM3). Indosat put IM3’s rate lower than what have XL done with kartu bebas. They set IM3’s rate IDR 0.01 per second. Indosat set the schema of IM3’s rate like kartu bebas, which fluctuates from minutes to minutes. XL be the first in setting low price through their product’s (kartu bebas) rate IDR 1 per second. Telkomsel already decreased their product’s rate too. simPATI has rate IDR 0.5 per second after one minute talk.
The facts that i’ve explained above describe how telecommunication operators already trapped in price war. And it seems that they can not get out from this in short time. The question is, Is it good or not? Of course the answer is depend on which view we use. If we use customer’s view, this condition brings a good impact because as low as rate offered will give them more advantages. But if we use operator’s view, this condition is a very hard decision that they have to make.
Till now we only hear about good news as the impact of this strategy for the operators. Like the growth of CB (Customer Base) is in good trend, etc. Actually it’s fine if their infrastructures (network) can handle this. But what it will be if their networks overload? Who will get the impact? Yes, of course the customers. For the example customers will be difficult to make a call. Call ended by network (call drop), etc.
As a part of customers, surely I hope that operators will not only decrease their rate without considering about their network capacity first rather than give customers better quality in service.
